There are lots of things you can do to combat fleas without having to resort to using chemicals in and around your home. There's a whole lot of natural flea control tips here.
WashBar Flea Repellent is used in a similar way to a topical treatment: apply 3 - 4 drops of the repellent directly onto the dog's skin by parting the hair at the nape of their neck and do the same with another 3 - 4 drops at the base of their tail. (These figures are for a medium to large sized dog. For small dogs 2 drops is usually enough). Brushing helps distribute the product through the coat. It is just as effective if applied to the inside of the dog's collar; many pet owners find this method easier and during summer when applications are required more regularly.
Apply once a month and after every wash during the winter months. Apply at least once a week and after every wash during the flea season - it can be applied daily if needed. During high flea season, sprinkle the repellent on the dogs bedding as well.
“I only use WashBar products on my dogs and wouldn't dream of using anything else. I love that they’re natural and non-irritating to their sensitive skins. Using a combination of the soap, flea repellent and spritzer not only do they smell amazing all the time, but the house does too. I use only WashBar Flea Repellent on my dogs and since using it in conjunction with your solid shampoo bars I have never seen a flea on them. I apply it after they have a bath which is about every 3 weeks. A couple of times during summer I’ll shake some onto their inside beds – I just really like the smell".
Every year Millie has needed medication for her reaction to flea bites, even with the use of Comfortis. She started using our Flea Repellent to complement the Comfortis. “Millie gets one Comfortis tablet at the beginning of each month and I use WashBar solid shampoo bars and flea repellent. Last year was the first season where she did not get a single bite infection. I do give her a break during the colder winter months (but only from the Comfortis) and have just given her the first tablet for this season at the beginning of September. Her bedding is changed every 2-3 days and if I am concerned in the worst summer period, I change it daily. I have also been known to wipe the flea repellent onto the floor of her kennel”.
